Λαλάδες..
Στην Ελλάδα συναντάμε τα δέκα από τα περίπου εκατό είδη τουλίπας που υπάρχουν στον κόσμο. Μερικά από αυτά φύονται μόνο στη χώρα μας. Στην Χίο συναντάμε τέσσερα από αυτά και τα ονομάζουμε λαλάδες. Την Tulipa praecox, την Tulipa agenensis, την Tulipa clusiana, και την Tulipa undulatifolia.
Τόπος καταγωγής της τουλίπας φαίνεται να είναι η κεντρική Ασία. Το Τιέν Σαν και τα όρη των Παμίρ Αλέ στο Ισλαμαμπάντ είναι μία από τις δύο περιοχές που πρωτοεμφανίστηκε η τουλίπα. Η δεύτερη περιοχή είναι το Αζερμπαϊτζάν και η Αρμενία. Από εκεί εξαπλώθηκαν οι τουλίπες σε όλη τη Μεσόγειο.
Στην Ολλανδία πήγε την τουλίπα ο βοτανολόγος Κάρολος Κλούσιος, όταν το 1593 έγινε διευθυντής του βοτανικού κήπου στο Λέιντεν και άρχισε την καλλιέργειά της για φαρμακευτικούς σκοπούς.
Σε πολλούς Ελληνικούς αλλά και Περσικούς μύθους αναφέρεται η τουλίπα. Μύθους που πλάθουν την ιστορία της γέννησής της. Ένας από αυτούς λέει: Κάποτε ήταν ένας Πέρσης πρίγκιπας που ονομαζόταν Φαράχ. Ο Φαράχ ήταν πολύ ερωτευμένος με την Σχιρίν. Όταν η αγαπημένη του σκοτώθηκε, ο Φαράχ έπεσε με το άλογό του σε έναν γκρεμό και αυτοκτόνησε. Το αίμα του πότισε το έδαφος και κάθε σταλαγματιά του έγινε τουλίπα. Από τότε οι τουλίπες θεωρούνται σύμβολο της απόλυτης αγάπης.
Οι Έλληνες αλλά και οι Οθωμανοί αγάπησαν πολύ τις τουλίπες. Στην περίοδο του Βυζαντίου γνωρίζουμε ότι τουλίπες καλλιεργούνταν στην Μικρά Ασία. Ο βεζίρης Λαλιζάρης καλλιεργούσε στους κήπους του πάνω από 500.000 τουλίπες. Η τουλίπα σαν μοτίβο χρησιμοποιήθηκε και στη διακόσμηση των αρχιγραμμάτων της Βίβλου του 12ου αιώνα.
Είναι άγνωστο από πού κατάγεται το όνομα τουλίπα. Μια πιθανή εξήγηση είναι πως κατάγεται από το toliban, δηλαδή το κάλυμμα του κεφαλιού που φορούσαν οι άνθρωποι στη μέση ανατολή, το οποίο μοιάζει με τουλίπα.
Στην Χίο συναντάμε τους λαλάδες κυρίως στο κεντρικό και νοτιοανατολικό τμήμα του νησιού. Από τον Μάρτιο αρχίζουν και κατακλύζουν τις καλλιεργούμενες εκτάσεις, τους ελαιώνες, τους αμυγδαλεώνες, αλλά και τους αγρούς του νησιού. Το πότε αρχίζει η άνθισή τους εξαρτάται από το πόσο καλός είναι ο καιρός. Το κάθε φυτό δεν διατηρεί τα λουλούδια του πάνω από 7 έως 10 ημέρες. Παρ’ όλο το ότι σαν φυτό «κλέβει» νερό και θρεπτικά συστατικά από τα καλλιεργούμενα είδη, οι αγρότες θαυμάζοντας την ομορφιά τους δεν αγωνίζονται σκληρά για να απαλλάξουν τα χωράφια τους από αυτά.
Ας γνωρίσουμε όμως μία μία τις τουλίπες – λαλάδες της Χίου.
H Toulipa Praecox Ten ή Τουρκολαλάς. Τα άνθη έχουν ζωηρό κόκκινο χρώμα. Έχει βολβό με χιτώνες εσωτερικά μαλλιαρούς (σε μερικά είδη η εσωτερική πλευρά του καλύπτεται από ένα παχύ τριχωτό στρώμα το οποίο του εξασφαλίζει επιπλέον προστασία από το κρύο. Γι΄ αυτό λοιπόν ονομάζονται «μαλλιαρές Τουλίπες»). Μπορεί να φτάσει το ύψος της μέχρι και 70 εκατοστά. Συναντάται και γύρω από καλλιεργούμενες εκτάσεις συνήθως αγρούς και ελαιώνες.
H Tulipa agenensis DC in Redoute ή φραγκολαλάς, φτάνει μέχρι τα 50 εκατοστά ύψος. Τα άνθη της είναι κόκκινα και στο εσωτερικό τους έχουν μαύρα στίγματα και κίτρινες ραβδώσεις. Απαντάται μέσα και γύρω από καλλιεργούμενες εκτάσεις, αγρούς και ελαιώνες
H Tulipa clusiana DC in Redoute ή λαλαδάκι πολίτικο ή βαβιλούσικο. Είναι μια ποικιλία μικρόσωμης λαλάδας, μέχρι 60 εκατοστών ύψος, με λευκά άνθη με έντονες εξωτερικές ραβδώσεις πορφυρού χρώματος. Έρχεται από την Περσία, και είναι σπάνιο. Σπάνια συναντώνται πάνω από τρεις λαλάδες μαζί. Το φυτό κινδυνεύει από εξαφάνιση, λόγω της υπερβολικής εξόρυξης των βολβών. Συναντάται μέσα και γύρω από καλλιεργούμενες εκτάσεις αγρούς, ελαιώνες, λιβάδια, αλλά και σε ξερότοπους. Η τιμή του στην αγορά της πόλης την εποχή της ανθοφορίας του, είναι ιδιαίτερα υψηλή.
H Tulipa undulatifolia ή τουλίπα η κυματόφυλλη. Έχει πορτοκαλοκόκκινα άνθη με μήκος περίπου 7 εκατοστά.
Τα φύλλα της έχουν κυματιστά άκρα και φτάνει μέχρι τα 30 εκατοστά ύψος. Είναι σπάνιο είδος, και τείνει να εξαφανιστεί. Πιθανόν αν είναι το ίδιο είδος με την T. Boetica Boiss & Heldr. Φύεται σε καλλιεργούμενες περιοχές, αγρούς, και κυρίως σε αγρούς με καλλιέργειες σχίνου.
